South Africa raised a few eyebrows after their underwhelming victory over Italy last weekend. So, there was much to prove heading into the second game, against the same opposition. Despite scoring two early tries, the game took a turn as Jasper Wiese was sent off for violent conduct.

This meant the Boks had to play an hour of rugby, a man down. At one stage, they were down to 13 men, but that only increased their intensity and execution, which led to a comfortable win. Next weekend’s game will allow more changes to be made to the match-day squad.
This will give the newbies an opportunity to shine, but not against the most formidable opposition, Georgia. We should see the Boks secure a comfortable win against Georgia in Nelspruit. But this will be a crucial week for the coach as he focuses on his final 35-man squad for the Rugby Championship.
The proper test will come when they face Australia in their Championship opener in Johannesburg on August 16th. South Africa is the gold standard in international rugby and will enter this match as favourites.
But if they decide to play similarly to how they did against Italy (game one), alarm bells will go off, as the Wallabies are a more clinical outfit than the Italians.
A good bet! Springboks to win by a 7+ points margin.
