SOUTH AFRICA CRUISE INTO THE SUPER EIGHTS
South Africa defeated the United Arab Emirates by six wickets in their final group game to finish top and secure their passage to the Super Eights.
Following the win over the Black Caps, the Proteas were always expected to win this game with a canter and prepare for the crucial next round. Now South Africa have always reached these stages playing great cricket but have always failed at the final hurdles.
The last time out, they finished runners-up to India, and it is going to be a spectacular clash when both meet again in their first Super Eight game on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Proteas will also have to face West Indies and Zimbabwe in their Super Eight group, but if they overcome the mighty Indians, they should have the confidence and wind in their sails to reach the semi-finals.
Considering the Aussies are out of the tournament, irrespective of their final group clash against Oman, the general feeling is that South Africa are strong favourites to go on and win their first T20 World Cup.
The balance is there, the time is right, and it is just a matter of Aiden Markram to lead his troops out now and let their cricket do the talking.
