PREMIER LEAGUE REVIEW – ROUND 31

The English Premier League delivered another dramatic weekend of action from 20–22 March 2026, with crucial results impacting both the title race and the battle for European and relegation places.

Friday night set the tone as Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw by AFC Bournemouth. United appeared on course for victory after Bruno Fernandez slotted in a penalty that was awarded for a foul on Cunha. It looked like United were going to receive a second penalty moments later, when Amad was brought down, but the referee waved play on, only for the Cherries to score immediately in that same passage of play through Ryan Christie. It wasn’t long until United regained their lead, when Fernandes’ excellent corner was unfortunately turned in by James Hill. The tables turned again with ten minutes to go, a late penalty—after a red card to Harry Maguire—allowed Bournemouth to snatch a point in an entertaining contest.

Saturday’s fixtures produced major talking points. Brighton & Hove Albion stunned Liverpool 2-1, with Danny Welbeck scoring twice to dent Liverpool’s Champions League ambitions. Meanwhile, Everton delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend, thrashing Chelsea 3-0 to boost their push for European qualification.

Elsewhere, Fulham came from behind to beat Burnley 3-1, while Leeds United and Brentford played out a goalless draw.

Sunday brought even more drama, particularly in the Tyne-Wear derby where Sunderland claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory over Newcastle United thanks to a late winner. At Villa Park, Aston Villa secured a comfortable 2-0 win over West Ham United to strengthen their position in the top half.

Overall, the weekend highlighted the league’s unpredictability. Everton’s resurgence, Liverpool’s inconsistency, and Tottenham’s alarming slump all point to a fiercely contested run-in. With European spots and relegation battles intensifying, the closing weeks of the season promise high drama and shifting fortunes across the table.

Domestic football will enjoy the mandatory International Break, but the betting is always open for the next exciting round of games.
