MC Alger Appoint Khaled Ben Yahia as Rhulani Mokwena Nears Al-Ittihad Move

Algerian giants MC Alger have officially confirmed the appointment of Khaled Ben Yahia as head coach, following the shock departure of Rhulani Mokwena, who is now strongly linked with a move to Al-Ittihad.

The North African powerhouse wasted no time in securing a replacement, in what could turn into one of football’s rare managerial “swap” scenarios.

Khaled Ben Yahia Returns to MC Alger

MC Alger have moved swiftly to appoint Khaled Ben Yahia, ending their search just days after Mokwena’s unexpected exit.

The Tunisian tactician returns to familiar territory, having previously enjoyed major success with the club. He has signed a deal that will keep him at MC Alger until June 2027, signaling long-term intent from the Algerian champions.

During his previous stint, Ben Yahia led the club to:

  • The Algerian Ligue 1 title
  • The Super Cup
  • A CAF Champions League quarter-final finish

His return brings stability and proven leadership as MC Alger aim to maintain their dominance both domestically and on the continent.

Why Did Rhulani Mokwena Leave MC Alger?

Rhulani Mokwena’s departure came as a major surprise, especially with the club sitting top of the Algerian league standings.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad AC coach activated a release clause in his contract, paying compensation equivalent to two months’ salary to secure an early exit.

Despite his short tenure, Mokwena leaves MC Alger in a strong position, having guided the team to the summit of the league.

MC Alger Confirm Ben Yahia Appointment

In an official statement, the club confirmed:

“The management of Mouloudia Club of Algiers announces the appointment of Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia as head of the technical staff until June 2027, succeeding South African coach Rhulani Mokwena.”

The club also revealed that Ben Yahia would immediately take charge, overseeing training ahead of their upcoming fixture against Ittihad Khenchela.

Mokwena to Al-Ittihad? A Coaching Swap on the Cards

With Ben Yahia stepping in at MC Alger, attention has quickly shifted to Mokwena’s next move — and all signs point to Al-Ittihad in Libya.

Interestingly, Ben Yahia recently coached Al-Ittihad, making this a near direct managerial swap between the two clubs.

If the move is completed, Mokwena could reunite with Thembinkosi Lorch, who recently joined Al-Ittihad. The pair share a strong history from their time together at:

  • Orlando Pirates
  • Mamelodi Sundowns
  • Wydad AC

What’s Next for MC Alger and Mokwena?

As MC Alger begin a new chapter under a familiar and successful coach, Mokwena appears set to continue his journey in North African football.

With both clubs acting swiftly, this rare coaching switch could shape the trajectory of two major teams in the region.
