Malcolm Marx has once again cemented his place among rugby’s elite after being crowned SA Rugby Men’s Player of the Year following a phenomenal 2025 season.

The dominant Springbok hooker capped off an incredible year by adding the prestigious national accolade to his global honour of World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year. The recognition highlights Marx’s immense contribution to the success of the South Africa national rugby union team throughout the year.

This marks the second time Marx has received the SA Rugby Men’s Player of the Year award, having first claimed the honour in 2017.

His powerful performances at hooker were crucial to the Springboks’ dominance throughout the season. Known for his physicality, breakdown mastery, and leadership on the field, Marx consistently delivered world-class displays against top international opposition.

Rassie Erasmus and the Springboks Recognised for Dominant Season

The awards ceremony also celebrated the leadership of Rassie Erasmus, who was named SA Rugby Coach of the Year after guiding the Springboks through another exceptional campaign.

Under Erasmus’ direction, the Springboks enjoyed a highly successful 2025 season that included:

  • Successfully defending the Rugby Championship title
  • Winning 11 out of 13 Test matches
  • Continuing to establish themselves as one of the most dominant teams in world rugby

As a result, the South Africa national rugby union team were also honoured as SA Rugby Team of the Year.
