MAGIC OF THE CUP
This weekend is the all-important Valentine’s Day, but for football fanatics and supporters, it is another round of the FA Cup, where anything is possible.
The oldest cup competition in the world is back for its fourth round, and the action commences on Friday night at Hull City, where new Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior will take his Blues to overcome the Tigers. The action will culminate on Monday night with round three giant slayers, Macclesfield entertaining Brentford.
The FA Cup has always produced some amazing games over the years, and it is the ideal competition in which the average child (supporter) from a small town can dream about. The thought about walking out onto the field as a young teen professional footballer, to face a huge club, and scoring a wonder goal to make the headlines, or even walking out onto the Wembley field in the final of the tournament.
Capturing that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is the stuff of fairytales, but it can be a reality. The prestige of the FA Cup will never die, and it shows that football is always the winner. It allows the minnows not only to dream, but to live it out. With hard work, stellar performances, and a little bit of luck, that dream could become reality. That is the magic of the Cup.
The standout fixtures for this weekend will see all EPL clashes as LIVERPOOL at home to BRIGHTON and ASTON VILLA at home to NEWCASTLE. The Seagulls took advantage of a low on confidence, managerless Man United and dumped them out, while the Reds had to do some work to do when they dispatched Barnsley respectively in the 3rd round.
NEWCASTLE will be eager to put together a good Cup run as they continue to struggle in the League, but it will be a tough task against a Villa team that’s in a good vein of form.
