CITY BREAK GUNNERS HEARTS AT WEMBLEY

Manchester City claimed the 2026 Carabao Cup Final with a commanding 2–0 victory over Arsenal at Wembley Stadium, delivering a major statement in English football’s first domestic showpiece of the season.

Despite Arsenal entering the match as favourites due to their strong league form, it was City who rose to the occasion. The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. Arsenal’s best opportunity fell to Kai Havertz early on, but he failed to capitalise, setting the tone for a frustrating afternoon. James Trafford also produced a remarkable save to keep City level heading into the break.

The game turned decisively in the second half, thanks to an inspired performance from young defender Nico O’Reilly. He opened the scoring with a header following a costly error by Arsenal goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, before doubling the lead just minutes later with another well-taken header.

From there, City controlled proceedings with composure and tactical discipline under Pep Guardiola. Arsenal, missing key creativity and fluency, struggled to respond and rarely threatened despite late efforts that came close but failed to find the net.

The victory secured City’s ninth League Cup title and marked another milestone in Guardiola’s glittering tenure, further reinforcing the club’s dominance in domestic competitions.

Meanwhile, for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, the defeat ended their hopes of a historic quadruple and highlighted shortcomings on the big stage.

It was a clinical and composed display from Manchester City, who once again proved their pedigree in finals, while Arsenal was left to regroup as their pursuit of silverware took a significant blow.

We now head into the International Break. The Gunners will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they face Southampton in their FA CUP Quarter Final clash on April 4th.
