CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LAST 16 LEG 2 REVIEW

The 2026 UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second legs delivered drama, goals and several dominant performances as Europe’s elite battled for quarter-final places.

Arsenal progressed with a controlled second leg win over Bayer Leverkusen, while Sporting CP completed a turnaround against Bodø/Glimt to reach the last eight. The Portuguese club was superb on the night to take the game into extra time before adding two more goals to seal their passage to the quarter finals.

Paris Saint-Germain was equally ruthless, cruising to a 3-0 win over Chelsea to complete an emphatic 8-2 aggregate triumph. The French champions dominated from the outset, underlining their status as serious title contenders.

Real Madrid once again showed their pedigree, defeating Manchester City 2-1 away to secure a 5-1 aggregate win. Vinícius Jr starred with both goals, as the Spanish giants comfortably dispatched the defending English champions.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich eased past Atalanta with a dominant aggregate scoreline, while Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-2 win over Atlético Madrid was not enough to prevent elimination after a heavy first-leg defeat.

Barcelona delivered the most eye-catching result, hammering Newcastle United 7-2 on the night for an 8-3 aggregate victory.

A devastating second-half display highlighted their attacking firepower and confirmed their return to top form.

Liverpool produced one of the standout comebacks, overturning a first-leg deficit to thrash Galatasaray 4-0 at Anfield and advance 4-1 on aggregate.

Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitiké, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah sealed a commanding victory, with Salah also reaching a milestone 50 goals in the competition.

The quarter-final lineup is now set, featuring blockbuster ties including PSG vs Liverpool and Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich, promising another thrilling chapter in this season’s competition.
