Arsenal Claim Bragging Rights
Arsenal bounced back from their setback at Wolves with a commanding win over their arch-rivals Tottenham in the North London derby.
Spurs have been shocking this season and were hoping that a new manager bounce could come to the fore. Igor Tudor stood in the dugout for the first time, but it was not to be as Arsenal showed their intentions early on and was eventually rewarded with the opening goal just after the half-hour mark through Eberechi Eze. The former Crystal Palace star nearly joined Spurs prior to moving to Arsenal from Crystal Palace in August and scored his first goals since netting a hat-trick in the first north London derby of the season in November.
Spurs responded almost immediately through Randall Kolo Muani after Declan Rice lost the ball, only for the Frenchman to level matters. Victor Gyokeres restored the Gunners’ lead when he was allowed extra space and time on the ball on the hour mark. Controversy then ensued when Muani thought he had levelled the game again, but it was chalked off by referee Peter Bankes for a push on Gabriel, a decision that was not overturned by VAR.
Both Eze and Gyokere’s struck again for the Gunners as they went to claim a comfortable win and maintain their five-point gap at the top of the table. Man City still has a game in hand over Arsenal, but the Gunners will feel better with their performance and hope they can do the same when they face Chelsea in their next game.
As for Tottenham, they have lots of work to do another the leadership of Tudor and will try and drag themselves up the table.
