AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR
South Africa, New Zealand, England, and tournament hosts India have secured their spots in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.
SEMI-FINAL 1 – NEW ZEALAND VS SOUTH AFRICA
The Proteas sealed their passage to the semifinals after their Super Eights win over the West Indies. They remained unbeaten, keeping their momentum with a comfortable victory over Zimbabwe on Sunday in their last Super Eights game. They enter the semis with seven wins from seven. This gives them a slight mental advantage over their opponents, New Zealand, whom they have already defeated in the initial group stages.
The Proteas are on a collision course with India for what could be a replay of the 2024 final, but the Black Caps will welcome another go at the Proteas with hopes of reaching the final as well.
New Zealand and Pakistan finished on equal points in their Super Eights group. However, despite Pakistan’s victory over Sri Lanka on Sunday, it was not enough to eclipse the Black Caps on their NET RUN-RATE.
New Zealand will face the Proteas on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, in the first semi-final at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
SEMI-FINAL 2 – INDIA VS ENGLAND
The Poms won all three of their Super Eight games. This should give them confidence and belief as they face the heavily favoured hosts. However, they tasted defeat in the initial group stages against the West Indies and know any complacency against the reigning champions will be punished.
India had to face the West Indies in a straight shootout for the last Semi-final spot. The Windies put on a reasonable total of 195 from their allotted overs. Sanju Samson, who only played three games for India was instrumental with a great unbeaten knock of 97* to secure India’s spot in the semis. His efforts should warrant another start for him.
This will be a Titanic battle between these two nations, and it will be a good watch for the neutrals out there.
India face England in the second semi-final on Thursday, 05 March 2026, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
