A WEEKEND AT WEMBLEY
FA CUP SEMI-FINALS

MANCHESTER CITY VS CHELSEA

20/04/2024 – 18:15

City are the reigning champions and as always, they’re expected to win every game. Once again, the mighty Citizens are expected to make their way to a consecutive FA Cup final and it could be a repeat of last season’s Manchester Derby at the home of football. We’re all aware that they were on track to do the most amazing thing in football and repeat the treble. However, despite their valiant efforts in their Champions League play-off on Wednesday night, Real Madrid triumphed in that dreaded penalty shootout.

Chelsea’s last outing was incredible. A 6-0 hammering of Everton, courtesy of four goals by Cole Palmer, who looks to be the Phil Foden of Chelsea, and they look like they could give the blue half of Manchester a game and-a-half come Saturday afternoon. When these clubs met in the Premier League, back in February. Pochettino’s men put on a good performance and held City to a draw. So, they know that they can turn it on if they can and they’ll need to bring those standards again to have any chance of making it to the final.

Rodri has netted in both H2Hs between these sides this season – he’s never scored in three consecutive appearances against a single opponent. Former City player Palmer could come back to haunt his former employers here having directly contributed to goals in seven consecutive club appearances, he could very well be the reason the Blues return to Wembley. But the champions will be heavily favoured to advance yet again.

MAN CITY TO WIN IN 90 MINS BY ONE GOAL (2.6)

COVENTRY CITY VS MANCHESTER UNITED

21/04/2024 – 16:30

The Sky Blues are gearing up for only their second appearance in the semi-final. The highlight of their cup run will undoubtedly be their last gasp win over Wolves in the quarter final. Coventry boss Mark Robbins has tasted joy at this stage when he netted an extra-time winner for his Sunday opponents back in 1990. This time around he’ll be hoping his vibrant team will be able to do the same against his former employers.

United, United, United! Even the most biased fan would not dispute that United’s overall 2024 football campaign has been diabolical. Truth be told, Erik Ten Hag has been hampered with more than fifty injuries and he was only able to put out a fully strength squad on two occasions. However, this is unfortunately part and parcel of football and the Red Devils have struggled in the league and Europe but have found their way to the semi-final after that thrilling victory over their age-old nemesis Liverpool.

Coventry striker Ellis Simms has been imperative in his side’s progression to this stage, scoring five times in the previous two rounds. Marcus Rashford is one of just four FA Cup winners in the Manchester United squad, but he’s never scored in this competition at Wembley from seven previous appearances. The Englishman has been taking heavy criticism this season for his drop in form and goals, but this will be an ideal opportunity to silence some of those critics. The Red Devils might just have that extra experience to see them advance to the final.
