Manchester City vs Tottenham

03/01/2023 – 18:30

Ange Postecoglou stormed into the Premier League with a lot of promise for Spurs. Despite allowing their greatest-ever player, Harry Kane, to leave in the summer. The new boss did well in the transfer market and brought about a fresh new style of football to North London. Everything was going well up until the defeat to Chelsea at the start of November.

it’s easy to deduce what went wrong for them – the injuries suffered by key players like James Maddison, Ivan Perisic and Pape Matar Sarr. Spurs used to top the Premier League back in October but, following three straight losses, find themselves in fifth place with 26 points. They have an honest record of 25 goals scored and 17 conceded. But now, Spurs could be looking at a fourth consecutive loss, unless they can find that Angeball spark again, in Manchester.

The Citizens had a perfect start to the new Premier League season as they won the first six matches. However, something broke in Pep Guardiola’s team in late September, and since then, they have recorded three wins, two draws and two losses in the league. This sees the treble winners sitting in second place.

However, City had to endure a tough week which saw them draw 1-1 with Liverpool and relinquished top spot in the Premier League to the Gunners. They went on to recover from 2-0 down at half-time to beat RB Leipzig in their Champions League outing. They’re facing consistent pressure, but Guardiola’s side are grinding out results as illustrated by their eight-game unbeaten sequence (W6, D2).

Positive news for Postecoglou is, he will have Yves Bissouma back for the match at the Etihad Stadium, although the three-match suspension of starting centre-back Cristian Romero is not over yet. Kevin de Bruyne is still a long-term absentee, but John Stones and Matteo Kovacic should be able to feature for City.

This is an ideal scenario for Spurs as they’re not expected to win so they can go all out and come away with a stunning win. But, City’s strength in depth and the big man Haaland, should have the last laugh.
