BELGIUM END USA DREAM
Belgium produced one of the standout performances of the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 as they swept aside co-hosts USA 4-1 to book a blockbuster quarter-final against Spain.
Charles De Ketelaere was the star of the show, scoring twice and adding an assist in a devastating attacking display that the Americans struggled to contain.
Belgium struck early, but Malik Tillman briefly lifted the home crowd with a superb free-kick equaliser. The Red Devils soon regained control, repeatedly exposing weaknesses in the USA defence after halftime.
A costly error by goalkeeper Matt Freese allowed Belgium to extend their lead before Romelu Lukaku sealed the emphatic win in stoppage time.
For the USA, it was a painful end to a promising tournament. Belgium now enters the quarterfinals brimming with confidence before a high-profile clash with Spain, one of the favourites to win the trophy.
