PREMIER LEAGUE

LIVERPOOL VS MANCHESTER CITY

10/03/2024 – 17:45

Could this be the title deciding match? Could this be the final time we see these two monster managers face off in England? The answer is yes. There’s a possibility that the team that wins this clash will gear up and fly towards the title – and it could well and truly be their final clash unless they meet at some point in the FA Cup.

One thing for sure, it is going to be fast and furious. The weekend’s Premier League headliner is between the league leaders, Liverpool, and their second placed visitors, Manchester City, when the two teams meet at Anfield on Sunday afternoon and with just one point separating the two clubs, this promises to be a real blockbuster to round of this weekend’s action.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is destined to leave the club at the end of this season, and they would love to give him the quadruple, as his farewell gift. As much as that is a football fairytale, Pep Guardiola still has the Citizens hitting the highest gear at the right time and hungrier as ever to make it four consecutive titles in a row.

Both clubs picked up good wins in their previous matches. Liverpool warmed up for Sunday’s huge Premiership blockbuster in fine fashion as they got a 5-1 first-leg lead over Sparta Prague in the Europa League last 16. Heaps of praise has gone towards the young blood at Anfield, but this clash will surely need their seasoned seniors to be on top of their game. City cruised into the Champions League quarterfinals after dispatching Copenhagen over two legs.

Anfield will be buzzing for the long-awaited return of lynchpin, Mohamed Salah, given his 17 direct goal contributions (G11, A6) in his 20 matches against City. The visitors will rely on Kevin De Bruyne’s similar output in this fixture, since he’s had a hand in 12 goals (G4, A8) in his last 15 clashes with Liverpool. And let’s not forget the case of Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez. Both players have been slotting in the goals for their respective teams and the spotlight will be on them.

This is obviously a tough game to call in terms of an outright winner as both Liverpool and Manchester City have produced some sparkling displays this season, but the goals market beckons as seven of the previous nine meetings have resulted in Over 2.5 goals.

This has all the makings of a solid draw!
