Manchester City will take their first step to the iconic treble if they can overcome Chelsea at the Etihad on Sunday.
Bournemouth vs Manchester United
20/05/23 – 16:00
Two consecutive wins over Leeds and Southampton at the end of April ensured Bournemouth had done enough to survive relegation with four games to play. The Cherries have lost three of their last four matches at the Vitality Stadium, conceding ten goals in the process, and have been especially vulnerable on their own turf in the opening 15 minutes. They’ve conceded more goals in that period than any other side in the division (8), so a solid start may be what manager Gary O Neil will demand.
With three games to play, United are under serious pressure to ensure Champions League qualification. Liverpool’s recent run of wins have thrown up as unlikely rivals in the race for top four. If United leave the Vitality with all three points, there would be a sense of calm knowing the final two games (Chelsea and Fulham) are at Old Trafford. The return of Varane and Garnacho is a great boost and both players will feature on Saturday.
The Cherries should be relaxed going into this game, but nothing would be sweeter than victory over United in their final home game of the season – and they won’t make life easy for the Red Devils who have yet to secure their spot in Europe. As much as the Cherries would want to give their fans a final home win – United will do what’s necessary to be in Europe next season and get the three points.
MAN UNITED WIN BY TWO GOALS
Manchester City vs Chelsea
21/05/23 – 17:30
Many pundits and fans believe that the biggest hurdle of City’s treble dream is behind them after the Citizens smashed reigning champions Real Madrid 4-0 to secure their spot in the Champions League final against Inter Milan in June.
There’s also the case of a small FA Cup final against their neighbours. But with the form they’re in right now and the Red Devils missing a few key players – City looks like they will lift the trophy at Wembley.
This brings us to the case of history in the making for this very special Manchester City outfit. Their current all-conquering 11-game winning streak in the Premier League is set to pay off. A 12th victory on Sunday and they will be crowned Champions of England for a historic third consecutive season. That feat has only been achieved before by their cross-town rivals, United.
The Blues need the season to end right now but they have three massive games to play. After City, they must face Man United and Newcastle on the final day. Owner Todd Boehly will be hoping incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino will change the fortunes around and we can expect lots of movement in the summer transfer window.
However, we can only see one outcome on Sunday. A comfortable win for City that will secure the title and accomplish the first step enroute to the treble.
MANCHESTER CITY WIN BY THREE GOALS
MAN UNITED WIN BY TWO GOALS @ 3.35
MANCHESTER CITY WIN BY THREE GOALS @ 1.54
POTENTIAL ODDS @ 10/1
United must win for that spot in Europe and City will win to claim their title.
