It’s crunch time for Southampton, Leeds, and Leicester. This is a pivotal weekend that will determine their overall trajectory.

Leeds United vs Newcastle
13/05/23 – 13:30

Big Sam returned to management last weekend to help Leeds stay in the topflight. But not even a managerial bounce could prevent a 2-1 loss to Man City. On Saturday, he will have to deal with ‘Castle and hope they can produce the goods in front of the Elland Road faithful.

The Magpies are fighting for their spot in Europe next season. We can expect them to come out guns blazing, especially after losing to the Gunners in their previous game. Playing away from home is unlikely to faze Eddie Howe’s men – they picked up 12 of the last 15 points available on their travels (W4, L1). Providing a further boost to the Toons’ away form, is the fact they’re unbeaten against every side placed 9th or worse in their own backyards (W7, D3).

A loss for Leeds wouldn’t exactly be the end of their run. But if results around them don’t go their way then this could be the final nail in the coffin.

LEEDS WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Southampton vs Fulham
13/05/23 – 16:00

Despite a valiant effort against Nottingham Forest, Southampton fell 4-3 and edged closer to the Championship. They’re rock bottom on 24 points, they must treat their last three games as must win finals to have any chance of surviving. And it starts this weekend.

With Brighton and Liverpool next up, the impossible begins with three points against the Cottagers on Saturday. Lose, or even draw, and their fate will be sealed.

Fulham scored 5 and were devastating in their last game. But relegation threatened Leicester scored 3. Fulham give up goals, and Southampton will need to exploit this if they are to have any chance. Fulham did get the better of their hosts in the reverse fixture which they won 2-1, setting themselves up for what could be their first ever league-double over Southampton. That’s about all the Cottagers have left to play this season, although they’ll be keen to secure a top-half PL finish for the first time since 2011/12.

No team has conceded first more often this season than Southampton (25). If they can shut them out long enough or get in front, then they could keep hope alive for one more weekend.

SOUTHAMPTON WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Leicester City vs Liverpool
15/05/23 – 21:00

Will this be the season that the Foxes reach their all-time low since their greatest ever achievement back in 2016? One thing for certain is they’ll have to turn the screw from kick-off if they’re going to get something against the fired up Scousers.

Leicester aims to recover from a 5-3 loss to Fulham, but they face yet another difficult task against Jurgen Klopp’s revitalized squad. There are no fresh injury worries in the home team, but James Justin, Jannik Vestergaard, and Kelechi Iheanacho remain on the side-lines with injuries.

Liverpool are on an impressive run of six wins. They’re hot on the heels of Man United and Newcastle and will jump at the chance to snatch a UCL spot. Both clubs are desperate for three points and Liverpool look like they’ve made the smoothest gear shift with the finish line just ahead. Leicester needs their fans to bring the noise and play the game of their lives to get the victory, but they could fall short.
