Chelsea vs Brighton
Lampard’s next challenge as interim boss
Mr. Potter exited the Bridge over troubled waters. The prodigal son – Frank Lampard – returns on an interim basis, but nothing changes. The Blues suffered back-to-back defeats under Lampard and Brighton will look to add to their misery.
After their humbling at the hands of Real Madrid, Chelsea moving on in the Champions League seems more hope than reality. Real could have scored more than the two they did as they outplayed and outmuscled a team that has failed to score in their last four games. Even more concerning, the team is on a bad run of form – 1 draw and 3 defeats – with swashbuckling Brighton up next.
Brighton lost 2 – 1 to Tottenham in their last game. Despite coach Roberti De Zerbi being sent off after an altercation between the coaching staff, the Seagulls were the better team on the day and the PGMOL issued them an apology after some strange and bad decisions. They visit Chelsea without their coach but still competing for a top six finish. The team may be distracted by their upcoming FA Cup semi-final against United but should be confident of all three points against their struggling hosts.
Lampard and his players will need to dig deep and find that missing X factor as the rot needs to stop. It will be a cracking game and the Seagulls could nick this one.
BRIGHTON TO WIN
Manchester City vs Leicester City
Pep Guardiola has the best squad in Europe, and they have found an extra gear at just the right time.
An empathic win over Bayern Munich in their quarter-final 1st leg shows why they are favourites to win their maiden Champions League crown. There’s also the case of the FA Cup and a possible meeting with United in the final.
Arsenal opened the door after failing to win at Anfield last week so now the Citizens can dream about a Treble season.
The expectation is simple this weekend. City should destroy the Foxes in the form they’re in. So, what can we expect from Leicester City and the new interim boss, Dean Smith? One thing for certain is Smith took on the task knowing that there’s a good enough chance of surviving the drop. This is a free hit for the Foxes, who enter this clash as outsiders given their plight.
It could be a landmark day for Jamie Vardy. If he plays, the club hero, now bit-part player, could become the first Leicester player to reach 300 PL appearances. This will give the fans something better to talk about than the fact they have won just one of their last 4 away games.
The new managerial bounce could work and swing this title race pendulum back toward the Gunners. But City looks focused, and we can expect nothing but a comfortable victory.
