Manchester vs Arsenal
Manchester City will take on Arsenal on Friday night. The Gunners will have to come back down to Earth after that late league victory over United. Mikel Arteta will have the daunting task of facing his mentor, Pep Guardiola, in the blue half of Manchester. This could be the ideal opportunity for Leandro Trossard to start. The Belgian looked impressive in his new colours when he came on as a substitute against United. He’ll bring a new dynamic to an already well-oiled machine. Pressure will be on Guardiola to get the job done in front of the home fans. Arsenal will have their hands full as they try to stop a certain Norwegian goal machine. This is going to be an incredible game. One for the neutrals, but City should get the job done within 90 minutes.
Manchester United vs Reading
The Red Devils dropped precious points in their previous two league games (Palace and Arsenal). They got back on their bike with a resounding win at Nottingham Forest in their EFL semi-final 1st leg. This was the best way to bounce back, ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup clash with Reading. Reading makes the trip to Old Trafford with former United legend Paul Ince at the helm. Their recent form has been poor in the Championship (no wins in four). This is the ideal time to produce a massive upset. The visitors may turn to the manager’s son, Tom Ince, to provide firepower as he’s netted six goals this season, five of which arrived after half-time. Erik Ten Hag will ensure his troops are ready and not in any complacent mindset whatsoever. We can expect a spirited performance from the visitors. Their FA Cup track record against United is not pretty at all and will likely remain the same. Marcus Rashford is in sublime form and if they continue to produce these performances, the glory days will return soon. Come the final whistle, the Red Devils should advance to the next round.
Brighton vs Liverpool
On Sunday, struggling Liverpool will have the chance to exercise their demons. They travel to the Amex to face Brighton. The Seagulls gave Jurgen Klopp’s men a proper schooling in their recent league encounter. This could be the only opportunity for the Reds to have some chance of silverware this season. But they do have a case of the fourth-round syndrome, having bowed out in four of their last six attempts. Roberto De Zerbi’s men are playing fantastic football. They have a bogey when it comes to facing Cup champions, having lost their last two FA Cup games. The recent win over the Reds will give them the confidence to overcome that hurdle. The spotlight will always be on Klopp and Liverpool, so the Seagulls will need to play their natural game. This is going to be a tight game and has all the making of a stalemate.
