VIEIRA TAKES CHARGE OF SENEGAL!

Patrick Vieira has been appointed Senegal’s new head coach, taking on one of the biggest challenges of his coaching career. The former France and Arsenal captain replaces Pape Thiaw, who was dismissed after Senegal’s disappointing exit from the 2026 World Cup.

The appointment represents a remarkable homecoming for Vieira, who was born in Dakar before going on to become a World Cup winner with France in 1998. Now, 50 years old, he returns to his birthplace determined to lead the Lions of Teranga into a new era.

Vieira brings considerable European coaching experience, having managed New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace, Strasbourg, and Genoa. However, this will be his first job in international management.

His immediate task will be rebuilding confidence after Senegal surrendered a two-goal lead before losing 3-2 to Belgium in the World Cup last 32.

With the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers beginning in September, Vieira has little time to settle in.

For Senegal, this is more than a managerial appointment. It is a bold attempt to restore belief, discipline, and ambition.

The Lions of Teranga have a new leader — and Vieira has a point to prove!
