THE HAALAND DRAMA
Manchester City are considering legal action after a Real Madrid presidential candidate claimed he would sign Erling Haaland if elected.
The future of Erling Haaland has become the centre of a growing storm in Spanish and English football after Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme publicly claimed he would bring the Norwegian superstar to the Santiago Bernabéu if elected as the club’s next president.
Riquelme made the bold promise during a television appearance, even unveiling a Real Madrid shirt bearing Haaland’s name and number. The businessman insisted that the striker has a contractual pathway to leave Manchester City and suggested that a move to Madrid could become a reality under his leadership.
The comments have generated significant attention ahead of Real Madrid’s presidential election.
However, Manchester City have moved quickly to refute those claims, saying in a statement that there is “no chance” Haaland will be leaving the Etihad Stadium any time soon. The Premier League club also said they are considering legal action over the shirt stunt.
A City spokesperson said in a statement: “The stories which have emerged from Spain regarding the future of Erling Haaland are untrue.
“There is no chance of this happening and there is no contractual clause to enable it.
Real Madrid have long admired Erling Haaland, and the Norwegian striker has been linked with a move to the club since his time at Borussia Dortmund. Although Manchester City want to keep him, speculation has grown that Madrid could try to lure him away if Riquelme wins the presidency.
