The end of an era as Salah hangs up his boots at Liverpool
Liverpool’s disappointing 2025/26 season will come to an end with the departure of the club’s star player, Mohamed Salah.
The 33-year-old Egyptian right winger shocked Liverpool supporters in March 2026, when he announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Salah wraps up his illustrious career at Liverpool against Brentford on Sunday, 24 May.
His decision follows a frustrating campaign for Liverpool, with the club falling far short of expectations.
After a dismal 4-2 defeat against Aston Villa on 15 May, Salah took to social media to express his frustrations over the teams’ performance this season.
“I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.
Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.”
Salah gave the club nine years, lifting two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups, as well as an FA Community Shield.
Mohamed Salah scored an incredible 255 goals in 435 appearances at Liverpool, making him the third all-time leading goalscorer.
Salah leaves Liverpool on a free transfer.
Liverpool will release two LFC Original films celebrating the legacies of Salah and fellow defender Andy Robertson, who is also set to depart the club on Sunday.
