French football’s new season gets an explosive opening on Sunday when Lens host Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophée des Champions at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Kick-off is scheduled for 20:45 CET, with the trophy bringing together the two best sides in Ligue 1 last season.

PSG arrive with enormous confidence after beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. Luis Enrique’s side are chasing a fifth consecutive Trophée des Champions title and a record-extending 15th triumph in the competition.

Lens, however, will be determined to spoil the Parisian party on home soil. They enjoyed an outstanding campaign last season, finishing second in Ligue 1 and earning the right to challenge the champions. Their impressive home record will give them belief, having won 14 of their 17 league matches at Bollaert-Delelis last season.

PSG have dominated the recent rivalry, winning their last eight competitive meetings with Lens, including a 2-0 victory at Bollaert-Delelis in May.

With PSG chasing another trophy and Lens desperate to make history, expect a fiercely contested opening to the French season.
