Kaizer Chiefs Coach Backs Khanyisa Mayo to Boost Top-Three Push After Magesi Win

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has thrown his support behind striker Khanyisa Mayo, backing him to make a decisive impact during the final stretch of the Premier Soccer League season. The forward scored his second league goal of the campaign in Wednesday’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Magesi FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Mayo, whose season has been disrupted by injuries, came off the bench to head home a pinpoint cross from Reeve Frosler in the 83rd minute. The late strike capped a dominant away performance and extended Kaizer Chiefs’ winning run to five consecutive Premier Soccer League matches.

Despite returning to full fitness and showing strong form in training, Mayo has had limited opportunities in recent fixtures. Ben Youssef acknowledged the striker’s patience and persistence, noting that the breakthrough was well deserved.

“He’s been a little bit unlucky in the last few games that he didn’t score, but I think today is his second goal and he will help the team a lot,” said the Chiefs co-coach.

With Kaizer Chiefs firmly in the race for a top-three finish, Mayo’s return to scoring form could prove crucial as the season enters its decisive phase. The Soweto giants are building momentum at the right time, and the striker’s confidence boost may add another attacking dimension to their push for a strong finish.

Why This Matters for Kaizer Chiefs’ Top-Three Ambitions

  • Chiefs extend winning streak to five matches
  • Khanyisa Mayo returns to scoring form
  • Squad depth improving at a crucial stage
  • Momentum building in the PSL top-three race

If Mayo continues to find the net, Kaizer Chiefs could strengthen their position in the Premier Soccer League standings and carry serious momentum into the final fixtures of the season.
