Arsenal is closing in on one of the summer’s biggest deals, with Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães nearing a sensational move to North London.

Arsenal has agreed a £75 million fee with Newcastle for the Brazilian midfielder, bringing Mikel Arteta’s long pursuit close to completion. Guimarães has been cleared to travel for a medical, and personal terms are understood to have been agreed.

The dramatic breakthrough comes just days after Newcastle rejected Arsenal’s opening offer, worth around £70 million. The Magpies had initially valued their prized midfielder closer to £80 million.

Guimarães, 28, has been a key figure at St James’ Park since arriving from Lyon in 2022 and became Newcastle captain last year.

Now, however, his Newcastle chapter is coming to a stunning end as Arsenal prepare to welcome a midfield powerhouse.
