BIG GUNS BOW OUT

Two European football heavyweights made shock exits from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after dramatic Round of 32 penalty shootouts.

Germany lost 4-3 on penalties to Paraguay after a tense 1-1 draw, while the Netherlands gave up a late lead before Morocco forced extra time and won the shootout 3-2.

The double elimination has increased pressure on both national team managers. After Germany’s defeat, coach Julian Nagelsmann said he wants to stay in charge despite the country’s third straight disappointing World Cup campaign, but his future now depends on the German Football Association. Reports have already linked former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp with the role if a change is made.

Ronald Koeman is also under mounting pressure after another disappointing major tournament. Although he defended his tactics and has not suggested he plans to step down, Dutch football officials are expected to review the campaign closely.

With expectations high for both nations, the next few weeks may determine whether either manager stays on for the next international cycle.
