AMAMZING NIGHT AT LAUREUS

The 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards took place in Madrid, once again celebrating the finest achievements across global sport. Widely regarded as the “Oscars of sport,” the annual ceremony—organised by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation—honours elite athletes while also highlighting the power of sport to inspire social change.

The 2026 edition was dominated by tennis, with Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka claiming the top individual honours. Alcaraz was named World Sportsman of the Year after a remarkable 2025 season that included multiple Grand Slam titles and finishing as world No.1. Sabalenka secured the World Sportswoman of the Year award following her consistent dominance on the women’s tour, highlighted by a US Open victory and deep runs in all majors.

In team sports, Paris Saint-Germain were recognised as Team of the Year after a historic treble-winning campaign and multiple international titles. Elsewhere, Formula One driver Lando Norris won Breakthrough of the Year, while golfer Rory McIlroy was honoured with the Comeback of the Year award.

The ceremony, co-hosted by Novak Djokovic and Eileen Gu, also celebrated achievements beyond mainstream categories. Chloe Kim took Action Sportsperson of the Year, while Paralympic swimmer Gabriel Araujo was recognised for his excellence. Young football sensation Lamine Yamal was named World Breakthrough/Young Athlete, underlining the emergence of a new generation.
