ALONSO HEADS TO THE BRIDGE
Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso has been appointed as the new manager of Chelsea, with the Spaniard signing a four-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
The 44-year-old arrives with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young coaches after a successful tenure with Bayer Leverkusen. However, things didn’t go as planned when Real Madrid appointed Alonso as manager on 1st June 2025. The Spaniard left by mutual consent after roughly seven months at the helm.
Chelsea’s hierarchy hope Alonso can finally bring stability after another turbulent campaign that saw multiple managerial changes and inconsistency on the pitch. The former Liverpool midfielder famously guided Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title and domestic cup success, achievements that made him one of the most sought-after coaches in world football.
Alonso is set to start on 1 July and will immediately take on the task of rebuilding a Chelsea squad that has talent but has underperformed. Fans will hope his tactical acumen and winning mindset can restore the Blues to contention in the Premier League and Europe.
