Terence “Bud” Crawford shocked the boxing world by beating Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez by unanimous decision at Allegiant Stadium. With the win, Crawford is now the undisputed super middleweight champion.
Crawford moved up two weight classes, from junior middleweight (154 lbs) to super middleweight (168 lbs), to challenge Canelo. From the first round, Crawford showed sharp timing, strong defence, and smart footwork.
Canelo landed some heavy shots, but Crawford stayed in control. He threw more punches, kept a higher pace, and never let Canelo settle. The judges scored it 116–112, 115–113, and 115–113 — all for Crawford.
Crawford’s record now stands at 42-0 (31 KOs). Canelo, one of boxing’s biggest names, drops to 63-3-2 (39 KOs).
With this victory, Crawford became the first male boxer in the four-belt era to become undisputed in three different weight classes.
“This is what greatness is about,” Crawford said after the fight. “They said I was too small, but champions rise to the occasion.”
At 35, Canelo remains a legend in boxing. He has been the sport’s top star for over a decade and still has the talent and fanbase to headline major fights. The loss is a setback, but it does not erase his legacy.
Crawford leaves Las Vegas with more than world titles. He leaves with history on his side. His victory over Canelo Álvarez is already being called one of the greatest achievements in modern boxing.
