MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE
Rory McIlroy etched his name deeper into golfing history with a dramatic victory at the 2026 Masters, successfully defending his title at Augusta National Golf Club.
The Northern Irishman finished on 12-under-par, edging Scottie Scheffler by a single stroke to claim his second consecutive Green Jacket and sixth major championship.
The tournament proved to be anything but straightforward. McIlroy stormed into an early lead with superb opening rounds but saw his advantage disappear after a difficult third round. On Sunday, he faced intense pressure, including an early double bogey, as rivals closed in. However, crucial birdies through Amen Corner and a composed back nine allowed him to regain control when it mattered most.
Scheffler mounted a fierce challenge with a bogey-free weekend, finishing just one shot behind, while a group including Justin Rose and Cameron Young tied for third at 10-under.
This victory places McIlroy among an elite group of players—alongside Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Nick Faldo—to win back-to-back Masters titles.
Beyond the statistics, the win highlighted McIlroy’s resilience and maturity under pressure. Having already completed the career Grand Slam, this triumph reaffirmed his status as one of golf’s modern greats and a dominant force at Augusta.
