BLITZBOKS IN SEVENS HEAVEN

South Africa claimed a dominant victory at the 2026 Vancouver Sevens, defeating Spain 38–12 in the final in Vancouver. The triumph marked another impressive performance by the Blitzboks, who were unbeaten throughout the tournament and displayed their trademark speed, defence, and clinical finishing.

South Africa set the tone early in the final, racing to a commanding 17–0 lead before halftime. Tries from Ryan Oosthuizen, Sebastiaan Jobb, and Shilton van Wyk put Spain under immense pressure and highlighted the Blitzboks’ attacking strength. Spain struggled to cope with South Africa’s aggressive defence and quick transitions, which repeatedly forced turnovers and scoring opportunities.

The Blitzboks continued their dominance in the second half. Van Wyk added a second try, while Gino Cupido and captain Impi Visser also crossed the line to seal an emphatic victory. Spain managed two consolation tries, but the result was never in doubt as South Africa controlled the match from start to finish.

Earlier in the tournament, South Africa progressed through the pool stage unbeaten and defeated Australia 19–12 in the semi-final to reach the decider.

The win was South Africa’s third title of the 2026 HSBC SVNS season and their 47th tournament victory overall. It also moved the Blitzboks level with Fiji at the top of the series standings, setting up a thrilling race for the overall title heading into the final tournament in New York.
