Supa Šeško To The Rescue
Manchester United extended their unbeaten run under Michael Carrick after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night.
The win lifts The Red Devils into fourth place, three points behind Aston Villa, as Carrick continues to steady the ship and push for Champions League qualification.
The match was always expected to be a tight encounter, Everton have been in strong form, chasing a place in the top half of the table. Both sides struggled to find rhythm in tough, windy conditions, with misplaced passes and scrappy midfield battles defining the first half.
Goalkeeper Senne Lammens showed his composure under pressure, dealing well with Everton’s aerial threat from corners and long balls.
After a slow start, United began to show more intent after the break, moving the ball quicker and forcing the Toffees deeper into their own half. The breakthrough came in the 71st minute, shortly after the introduction of Benjamin Šeško.
A defensive clearance from Harry Maguire sparked a rapid counterattack — Matheus Cunha picked up the loose ball and threaded a pass to Bryan Mbeumo, who raced down the flank before delivering a perfect cross for Šeško to fire home from close range.
Everton pressed for an equaliser late on, with Michael Keane testing Lammens from distance, but the United keeper produced a fine save to preserve the clean sheet.
The win keeps Carrick’s men unbeaten in seven matches, showing improved defensive organisation and clinical finishing. United may not be leading the league yet, but their recent form suggests a strong push for the top four is well underway.
Next up: Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, where United will look to extend their unbeaten streak and tighten their grip on a Champions League spot.
