Three in a row Carrick
Manchester United defeated Fulham 3-2 to ensure interim manager Michael Carrick remains unbeaten in his three games at the helm.
United have always been the main topic of discussion, and now they are soaking up the praises after another solid performance that included a ‘Fergie Time’ winner from their big summer signing Benjamin Sesko.
Fulham looked decent and played with a lot of energy, but it was the cool and calm hosts who took the lead through Casemiro. Matheus Cunha was brought down in the box, and a penalty was awarded. However, VAR intervened to correctly rule that the foul had occurred outside the box, and a free kick was awarded instead. Skipper Bruno Fernandez dinked in an accurate free kick for the onrushing Brazilian to head home.
After the break, Fulham came out with even more energy and stepped up in their overall play. United looked relaxed without the ball until Casemiro provided a sweet no-look assist to his fellow countryman Cunha, who allowed the ball to roll across him before lashing it into the roof of the net just under the hour mark. It seemed like the job was complete as the game edged into the final quarter, but a lifeline was handed to the London club. Harry Maguire was unfortunate to see his late challenge earn the Cottagers a penalty, which was easily dispatched by Raul Jimenez.
It looked like United would hang on for the win until substitute Kevin was given some space on the edge of the box to fire home a special strike to open his account. There was an eerie feeling creeping inside Old Trafford as Fulham sensed they could steal a third and break United hearts, but the cool Fernandez did excellent work on the flank to send through a first-time cross only for Sesko to take his time, twist, turn, and rifle a shot into the top corner to send the Trafford faithful into raptures.
So that was three in a row for Carrick and a current fourth spot on the table. Next up for the Red Devils is a visit from Tottenham. Will Carrick make it 4!
